CUSD Basketball Playoff Preview- Opening Rounds

With 11 of the 12 basketball teams we cover at CTR making the playoffs in their respective divisions, it should be an exciting set of tournaments. Here’s a preview of the Chandler Unified School District opening round match-ups- we’ll have a separate preview for Seton Catholic and Valley Christian’s teams out tomorrow.

Basha’s boys return to the playoffs tomorrow night and hold the #14 seed. The #19 Highland Hawks are a tough first round draw for the Bears, as the Hawks closed out the regular season two weeks ago with a 15 point win over Basha. The winner will move on to face #3 Mesa Mountain View.

The boys team finished the year at 14-12, struggling to stop teams defensively in a very tough section. The Wolves drew the 22 seed, and will play at #11 Pinnacle on Thursday night at 7pm, with the winner earning the right to take on #6 Gilbert on Saturday night.

Chandler’s girls landed a rather high playoff seed (15) despite a shaky late season performance, and they have their tough regular season schedule to thank for that. The girls open tonight (2/18) against a #18 Corona team that split the regular season contests with Chandler, with the most recent matchup going in favor of the Aztecs. The winner will move on to face #2 Liberty on Friday night.

Hamilton’s girls have the #3 seed, a first round bye, and on Friday they’ll meet the winner #19 Mountain Pointe at #14 Ironwood. Mountain Pointe upset Hamilton at the MLK Classic at Wells Fargo Arena in January.
