A roundup of the previous days’ news and events surrounding the city of Chandler’s prep and alumni sports scene- all to help keep you in the know. Did I miss anything? Leave a link in the comments and I’ll make sure to include it.

Basha

Basha Wrestling hosted an alumni night last night in their team victory over Mountain Pointe, where this great photo was taken.

There are eight state placers, and four state champions in the photo above, including Trey Ronayne, Jake Smith, Ryan Jimenez and Tyler Jimenez.

Basha students will be selling a limited quantity of “31 Strong” shirts on Thursday to help pay for the cost of Devin Kirby’s surgery and rehab. You can help by donating here.

Chandler

Long time track and field coach Eric Richardson headlines the impressive list of 2014 Chandler Sports Hall of Fame inductees, and is joined by professional volleyball player Dominique Lamb as a Chandler High affiliated honoree. You can buy tickets to the Luncheon and induction ceremony here.

Hamilton

With Corona alum Andrus Peat having declared for the NFL draft, Hamilton alum Casey Tucker has an opportunity to compete for the starting LT spot at Stanford as a sophomore. Tucker was listed as Peat’s backup at LT on the depth chart this year.

Perry

Per Richard Obert, Markus Howard will not play Friday in the Pumas home game vs rival Basha.

Seton Catholic

The Phoenix Mercury are bringing the 2014 WNBA championship trophy to Seton Catholic on Friday for the Varsity girls’ home game against Desert Edge as part of their “tour of champions.” Seton Catholic won their division’s girls basketball title in 2013-14.

Valley Christian

Both Alaina Bergsma and Breanna Leslie, two of the Trojans most accomplished female athletes of all time, are also set to be inducted into the 2014 class of the Chandler Sports Hall of Fame on February 7th. Most recently, Bergsma helped her Philippine team win a title, and was named MVP, while Leslie took 5th place in the heptathlon at the 2013 Pan-American games.
